French game publisher Ubisoft has openly acknowledged that it has delayed and cancelled numerous games in recent years due to an extensive workload involving too many titles.

During a quarterly earnings call with investors on February 16, CEO Yves Guillemot stated, “We’ve cancelled a few games because we had to make room for other games that are in development at the company, and that helps all the other games that are progressing well.”

Recent reports indicate that Ubisoft cancelled an additional three projects last month as part of a strategic effort to address revenue losses and focus on long-term growth. Notably, the highly anticipated game Skull & Bones faced its sixth delay and is now slated for release in 2024, sparking inquiries.

Guillemot outlined the company’s perspective, stating, “Now we feel like we have the right number of games, knowing that we’re going to be launching a lot of games in FY24, which will also make room for the other games that are coming up in the company.”
